weddings should be stress free

Posted on January 31, 2011

We love to photograph weddings. There is honestly nothing better than two people in love. I think most people will agree with that. When we photograph weddings, we love to capture the emotions, the story of the day and the little details, especially the little pieces that help make the day so memorable. While we do posed formals, our favorite shots of the day are usually the shots that our clients don’t realize that we have taken, the groom getting a pre-ceremony pep talk from his dad or the mother of the bride tearing up while looking at her daughter in her gorgeous white dress and veil. It’s moments like those that I really love.

The wedding day should be about the bride and groom, not the photographer. We love it when family and friends of our clients tell us that we are more fun than other photographers they have had to deal with in the past. Weddings should be fun, not full of stress. We believe that making your wedding day as stress free as possible is the way to go. While we do posed formals, we don’t want to spend the whole day posing people around, we want the day to unfold naturally so we work to get these done as efficiently as possible in order for our clients to enjoy their wedding day, it only happens once and it seems to go by so fast. It’s a good thing that pictures last forever. ;) We want our clients to remember everything from their wedding day, from getting ready in the morning, to the emotion filled ceremony to the crazy break dancing during the reception.

I think that the best things that couples can do when looking for a photographer is to find someone that you really get along with, because honestly, the photographer is the person you will be hanging around with for most of the day and if you don’t mesh well, that will convey itself into the images. Take a look at a ton of photographers until you find the one that is right for you. We know that we may not be the right fit for everyone, but for those we do hit it off with, we create wonderful memories, and that is really all that matters.

Deb and Erik have been waiting for the perfect snow filled day for their engagement session. Well, the day finally arrived and I am happy to announce that the day was perfect, the sky was a brilliant blue and the snow was still so gorgeously white it was nearly blinding. I’m including just a little taste of what we shot today, my fingers are still a bit frozen so they need to thaw a bit before I can type some more.

Enjoy this little bit of love!

I believe that every senior deserves something different. So I always ask my seniors if there is a special location that they want to hit for their session, I love it when they tell me of someplace new, or have a friend that knows a great location. Maddie and Kacie did our two for one special this past year and Kacie had the coolest family friends that own a gorgeous house on the outskirts of town with some luscious buildings full of peeling paint and character.

Today I’m going to show off what I did with Maddie during our session. We started off at the private property and then headed out East of town to Durward’s Glen, which is just gorgeous.

feeling like a bride

Posted on January 28, 2011

I found out yesterday that I will be my sister in law’s matron of honor this fall. I am so excited, although it’s been five years since I have been in front of the camera myself. It will be quite the change and I am looking forward to the fun. Today we had an appointment at Specially Hers in Baraboo to look at the bridesmaids’ dresses. I can totally understand why brides can get so flustered, there were a ton of options, and even with Amanda giving us pretty free reign to choose different styles, we, the three bridesmaids that were present and accounted for, picked the same dress, although I was really hoping for something with pockets. ;) I hear I’m not allowed to carry my camera around anyways.

After trying on a few dresses, and giggling at each others choice of socks, for one mine matched, we managed to get Amanda in a gorgeous ivory gown. The consultant also grabbed a glittering headband and veil and, deep sigh, Amanda finally felt like a bride. It was amazing to see the transformation and know that she finally felt that this was her moment. I know that I had a big goofy grin on my face as  I snapped a couple shots to capture the moment.

Beautiful bride to be as she finally feels like a bride.

Welcome back to this week’s edition of album thursday! Today I am showing off Sara and Kirk’s gorgeous ONE. This is the largest size we offer, it is twelve square inches of gorgeous images and luxurious fabrics. Sara chose the French Quarter cover from the Paraphernalia swatches. The simple black and white design was a near perfect match for their wedding stationary. I love that the ONE has so many options to choose from. I wasn’t quite sure how the French Quarter would look by itself, but as soon as I opened up the box I was super impressed. I love to feel the albums, I know I’ve mentioned it before, but an album needs to be felt and loved.

The ONE is a flushmount, which means that the pages are actual prints mounted to a thin board. These albums are super sturdy and a dream to touch. They also have a ton of options to choose from to get the perfect album to represent your wedding day, or family session, we’d love to create an album to showcase your latest milestone. :)

Sara and Kirk’s 30 page ONE features 91 images from their amazing wedding day. I love the hot pink bridesmaid dresses. It’s just a girl thing, hot pink. I’ve also included a few spreads at the end so you can see how I like to design the albums. I love being able to tell the story of the day with our images, it brings the whole wedding day back to me again, I only hope that our clients agree as they peruse their own albums!

So, take a look, feel free to leave me some blog love because you know it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;)

Here is our first lifestyle session of the year! I had so much fun with Regina, Tom and their family. It was excited to see everyone come together, especially since they don’t see each other that often as Josh is living out in California these days. When I was a little girl, we would go over to their house, let me tell you that the house is even way more awesome than I remember! It’s such a gorgeous setting, and I am so happy that I was chosen to document this family reunion.

The grandkids were so adorable, especially when they were being themselves. I love kids, they always say the funniest things and do pretty much whatever their little heart desires. I brought along some treats, and with mom’s okay of course, gave the two little ones a little sugary jumpstart in the middle of the session. What a treat, they both ended up with little sugary smiles, which I fell in love with, and look at how cute they are anyways!

Regina, Tom and family, thank you so much for letting me capture this moment in your lives, I hope you love the images as much as I do!

{new prop} newborn fringe blanket

Posted on January 23, 2011

I’ve been eying up newborn props lately, especially the super adorable fringe blankets. Of course, I have no crocheting skills, so making my own would definitely not work. :( But my best friend Karen is a crocheting whiz and decided to give this a try and she did an amazing job if I do say so myself. I did have the hardest time choosing a color and decided on a green blend with some rich red running through it. Green is my favorite color and I know that several of my newborns this year are going to be boys, at least according to the ultrasounds, so green will be great for them, even though we did see a super cute fuzzy purple.

I didn’t have a newborn to practice with, so decided to grab a cute little teddy bear of Jamie’s to model for me, he did pretty good, although he is definitely not as cute as the next models will be. I cannot wait to beef up my newborn portfolio this year with my new props. Along with the new fringe blanket, I’ve got the cutest little wooden doll bed from my own childhood which is currently resting in my car as I decide what color to paint it. Right now it is baby girl pink, and as a little girl I was okay with that, but now I am thinking that white will be the perfect neutral color to go along with some colorful blankets and adorable newborns. I am just so excited to play with my new props!

Mayor’s chili cook off in New Lisbon

Posted on January 22, 2011

Today we drove up to New Lisbon for the Mayor’s Chili Cook Off. We even made our own entry this year, our first year of entering and Rob will refer to our entry as “the loser chili”. Lol. We may not have won, but we had so much fun tasting all the different kinds of chili, there were 12 chilis, 5 soups and 9 different breads. The proceeds of this year’s cook off went to help out the local library. I think every kid should read and libraries are the best.

When I was a kid, I think we went to the library every single week. I loved being able to pick out new books to take home and read. I would get stacks of books, I’ll admit that I still love a good book. Just the smell when you crack open the pages, ahhh heaven. So, I am proud to admit that we helped out a bit today. Jamie even got her picture taken by the editor of the Mauston paper, how exciting is that?! She’s my little celebrity, as you can see she’s got the perfect oreo face for it. ;)

Look at this turnout, I believe the final count was 107 people. Awesome!

Here’s my little taster, she really enjoyed the cheese, breads and, of course, the deep fried oreos.

Here is the mayor, reading out the winning entry. Sadly, not ours, but a very tasty chili.
